There’s no doubt. Toyota Camry has been the top selling car in the US for the last 13 years out of 14. Enthusiasts and automotive journalists bash it for being boring and soft, but the ‘mainstream USA’ buy these things in droves… but I digress…
The current 2011 Camry was introduced in 2006 as a 2007 model. At that time, Toyota wanted to jazz up the ho-hum image of the Camry – which sort of worked, because the 2002 – 2006 models were god-awful boring.
These days, the Camry is facing some stiff competition from Ford, Honda, Hyundai, and Kia. Ford has the American domestic buyers at its back, Honda has always been the Camry’s arch-nemesis, and the upstarts Hyundai and Kia are bringing their A-game with their swoopy sedans that top out at 35 MPG and 200 HP.
So in order to compete with these new offerings, Toyota will be introducing their all-new 2012 model this fall. And Mr. Toyoda is teasing the new car on this video… but don’t get your hopes up too much, it’s only a shot of the headlight – ONE HEADLIGHT!
