A Korean Hostile Takeover?

If you’ve ever doubted the rise of the Korean industrial might, here’s another SIGN.

London’s Piccadilly Circus signage will have a new headliner, and the advertiser to take that prime position is… Hyundai. You see, the Piccadilly Circus is the equivalent of New York’s Time Square and this particular spot has been occupied by Sanyo since 1994.

If you notice in the picture, Samsung, another Korean giant conglomerate, has already taken the ad space from Panasonic 17 years ago. A few years ago, this iconic advertising space was filled with Sanyo, Panasonic, TDK, McDonald’s and Coca-Cola – as of this fall, all Japanese brands but TDK, will be replaced by the Korean brands.

Later this year, when the Hyundai signage goes up in LED lighting, the Korean takeover of the Piccadilly Circus will be well under way. So, after the Korean brands run their course, will we see the Chinese brands up there next?
