Mazda CX-5 Debuting at 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show

The current Mazda lineup is getting a bit long in the tooth and to inject some fresh ‘Zoom-Zoom’, Mazda is readying an all-new crossover called CX-5. As the name might suggest, the CX-5 is smaller than the CX-9 and CX-7.

The CX-5 will feature Mazda’s new ‘KODO – Soul of Motion’ design language and the SKYACTIV drivetrain technology. The former means that the smiley faces are gone from its front fascia and the latter means that the vehicles will be more efficient, powerful, and cleaner burning. As a matter of fact, the Mazda3 will be premiering with a new KODO face, right next to this CX-5 – no more smiley face!

For the European market, Mazda plans to bring out the CX-5 in three flavors – SKYACTIV-G 2.0 liter gas engine, SKYACTIV-D 2.2 liter diesel engine, and SKYACTIV-D 2.2 liter ‘high power’ diesel engine. Somehow I think the US version will not receive the 2.2 liter diesel engines.

At any rate, if you would like to go see this vehicle in person, please make your travels plans to Frankfurt, Germany this September 15-25. Or you could just wait until next spring for the US release…
